Born in Moscow, February 10, 1949, into a family of a Soviet Army officer. 1966-72 - a student of the Moscow Architectural Institute. After graduation, along with the work at planning and design companies tried himself in graphic arts and then painting. 1979-88 - an architect and designer at the USSR Artists’ Foundation Monumental Center. Since 1976 he started to exhibit his works in the cellars on Malaya Gruzinskaya where in the fall of 1985 they were discovered by New York art dealers Phyllis Kind and Ann Livet. Since 1987 he participated in a number of exhibitions in the USA, then in Western Europe and at last in the USSR (Russia). He had nine personal exibitions at Phyllis Kind Gallery (New York, Chicago), Inge Baecker Gallery (Cologn), Regina Gallery and Yakut Gallery (Moscow). Many times participated in Art Fairs in Chicago, Cologn, Basel, and Paris. His paintings are in the collections of: Norton Dodge, Carrie Cameron, John Stuart, and Lewis Pollock and in other private collections of the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Russia. In 1995 he stopped painting. Since 1999 started to exhibit author’s photographs. In the late 80s began to write prose. His narratives and stories were published in Ogonyok (1989), Oktyabr (1996), Znamya (1997, 1999, Zolotoy Vek (1997), Literaturnoe Obozrenie (1997), Novy Mir (1998), and other magazines. In 1997 he got Znamya’s Literary Award. In 1993 began writing essays and publicistic articles in such newspapers as Segodnya, Obshaya Gazeta, MN, Inostranets, Vesti.ru, etc., in magazines Inostrannaya Literatura, Iskusstvo Kino, Znamya, Novy Mir, Itogi, Ogonyok, Pushkin, and others. In 1999 a collection of his articles was published by NLO Publishers. Lives and works in Moscow.
